The various instrument families

String :

String instruments are those that produce sound when their strings are made to vibrate. To do that, the following can be used :

- a bow that rubs them (violin)

- a keyboard with hammers that strikes them (piano)

- the fingers to pluck them (harp) or strum them with fingernails (guitar)

- a plectrum (electric guitar)

Wind :

Wind instruments are those whose sound is produced by breathing into e reed or mouthpiece.

In the case of brass instruments, the lips make the air vibrate directly.

Percussion :

Percussion instruments are those that are struck using hands or sticks. Depending on the instrument, you can create rthythms or produce specific notes to play tunes. Percussion instruments may be struck, plucked, shaken or scraped. They are also classified according to the material used to make them: wood, hide or metal.
